Another beach we wanted to visit and check off our list was Petite Baie or Little Beach. This beach was interesting as its part of an old resort that got destroyed in Hurricane Luis in 1995. Its not your typical caribbean beach as far as beauty and its location makes it difficult to access and it is rarely visited due to the forces of nature. We had a great time exploring the beach and hiking pointe de bluff. We were so happy the Harkers joined us because they had been there before and were able to show us the ruins of the abandoned Hotel La Belle Creole.

| Little beach and pointe de bluff in the distance. |
| These trees are everywhere on the island, I love their neat looking roots/branches. |
| There are man made rock barriers in the distance to make for a calm swimming area, it has eroded a bit since the hotel was vacant. Monty took a swim in there. |
| The kids had a blast jumping off this stone. |
| Pointe de bluff was overgrown so we were only able to hike half of one side. It was a bit steep on the rocks. |
The history of the Hotel La Belle Creole is quite interesting. The hotel took many years to build, the original owner never lived to see it finished, and the hotel sat empty for many years until another owner was able to complete the mediterranean inspired resort in 1988. I read that it wasn't the hurricane that destroyed this 5 star resort, it was the unions. The story goes that they tried to reopen the hotel after hurricane Luis and the union blockaded the entrance and sent the guests to another hotel. Some say the hotel is haunted because it is built on an Indian Arawak grave site and that is why the hotel was jinxed. The resort never reopened after 1995.
Below is an aerial picture when the hotel was open.
These are the pictures of the current state...

| All I could think of was "Snakes, I hate snakes" when I saw these roots. |
| These trees roots grow outside of the ground and will continue to grow until they find a sour of water. |
| The overgrowth of this resort was incredible. |
Rumour has it that the resort is to be demolished in 6 months and then rebuilt.
