Petite and Grande Cayes

Grande Cayes is located on the French side and is often visited by St. Martin families for barbecues. The large beach faces Tintamarre island and we found it to be superb for coral reef snorkelling.

This was Eli's first experience snorkelling and he loved it. I don't know what I loved more seeing the colourful fish or watching him discover and point at them under the water? It was pretty cute, I sure love my little boy. Krysten's sharp eyes proved to be an asset again,  she found a large sea urchin on the sea bed of grass. It was about the size of a child's basketball.

After we cooled off with a swim and some snorkelling we headed out on the 30 minute hike or what we read was a 30 minute hike to petite cayes. Well it took us almost an hour over the rocky terrain, we were all wearing sandals and some parts were quite steep. But it was well worth it, we ended up being the only people on the beach, apart from some surfers in the far distance.

"Are we there yet"?

My kids were such good sports

Tintamarre Island in the distance

The "Melocactus Intortus" these were littered all over the terrain.

Just over those the rolling hills is another beautiful beach "Anse Marcel".

Our own private beach

Just to prove we made the trek out there:)

The surfers were really good!
